Student Data Privacy Policy

Shanenli   ·   Last Updated: [DATE]

This policy explains what data Shanenli collects from students, how we use it, and how we protect it. We've written it in plain language so parents, teachers, and school administrators can understand exactly what happens with student information.

1.  What we collect

When a student signs in with their school Google account, we receive three pieces of information: their name, their school email address, and a record of which texts they have read in the app. That's it. We do not collect home addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal details.

  Name       School email       Reading history

2.  How reading aloud works

Shanenli listens while a student reads aloud and gives them an instant score. The audio is processed in real time on the device and then immediately discarded. We never store voice recordings. No audio file is saved, uploaded, or retained anywhere — not on our servers, and not on the device.

3.  Who can see student data

A student's data is visible only within their own school account. We do not share, sell, or rent student data to any third party — not to advertisers, data brokers, or any other company. Teachers and administrators at the student's school can access data as permitted by the school.

Not sold       Not shared with third parties       School account only

4.  Deleting an account

Parents and school administrators can request full deletion of a student's account at any time. Once we verify the request, we will delete all associated data within 30 days. To submit a request, contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.

Deleted within 30 days of verified request

5.  Legal compliance

Shanenli is designed to comply fully with federal student privacy law. This includes:

FERPA — Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act       COPPA — Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

6.  Changes to this policy

We will announce any change to our data practices in advance — before it takes effect. No change will go into effect until we receive explicit opt-in approval from both the school administration and each affected parent. You will never be enrolled in new data practices without your knowledge and consent.

DPA

SHANENLI   ·   Data Processing Agreement

This Data Processing Agreement ("Agreement") is entered into between Shanenli, an educational technology platform ("Shanenli"), and the school identified in the signature block below ("School"). It governs how student data is handled when the School uses the Shanenli reading platform.

1.  Parental Consent

The School confirms that it has obtained all required parental consents for student participation in Shanenli, in accordance with the school official exception under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The School takes responsibility for ensuring that appropriate consent is in place before any student account is created.

2.  Permitted Use of Student Data

Shanenli will use student data solely to provide and improve the Shanenli reading service for students at the School. Student data will not be used for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to delivering the educational service.

3.  No Third-Party Sharing

Shanenli will not sell, rent, or share student data with any third party, including advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers, except as required by law or as explicitly directed in writing by the School.

4.  Data Deletion

Upon written request from the School or a parent or guardian, Shanenli will permanently delete all data associated with the specified student account(s) within 30 days of receiving and verifying the request.

5.  FERPA Compliance

Both parties agree to handle student education records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Shanenli acts as a school official with a legitimate educational interest as defined under FERPA, and will not disclose student records except as permitted by law.

6.  Term and Termination

This Agreement remains in effect for as long as the School uses the Shanenli platform. Either party may terminate this Agreement with 30 days' written notice. Upon termination, Shanenli will delete all School student data within 30 days unless a shorter timeframe is requested.

Agreed and signed by authorized representatives of both parties.
